Anthropic's Claude Tag analyzes Slack messages to learn your company

Anthropic is launching Claude Tag as a research preview — an always-on Claude that operates within Slack as an AI teammate. This new feature, which lets users tag @Claude to gain insights and assign tasks in chats, will debut in research preview and will be available through Slack for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers.
Claude Tag builds on several existing integrations. Users can already direct message @Claude in Slack or tag it in channels for on-demand assistance, while Claude Code in Slack routes coding tasks from channel mentions to full web-based coding sessions, posting updates back into the thread.
Claude Tag introduces a layer of persistent context and memory that was challenging to maintain with earlier tools. “As Claude follows along with its channel, it learns more about the work,” Anthropic stated. “Claude can also automatically gather facts from other parts of the organization, if permitted to read additional channels.”
With Claude Tag, everyone in a Slack channel shares a single Claude identity, meaning “anyone can see what Claude has been working on and continue the conversation from where the last person left off.” System administrators will control which tools, information, and channels Claude can access, and each Claude identity remains scoped to the channels administrators define, ensuring that a Claude configured for legal work cannot seed memories into the engineering channel, for example.
When given a specific task, Claude Tag breaks it down into stages and works through them using the tools it has access to, responding in a Slack thread with its output. Claude Tag also includes an ambient mode that proactively joins the chat on its own to keep your team informed, highlight relevant information from across the organization, and follow up on threads or tasks that may have been overlooked.
Anthropic says this creates the feeling of “working with a real colleague — one that can produce work in public view, with far greater context and understanding than before.”
Context is becoming increasingly critical for enterprise deployments, and Anthropic is not the only company focusing on it. Microsoft offers Graph, expressed through Copilot and Work IQ. Snowflake and Databricks are positioning their platforms as back-end support that contains tacit organizational knowledge for agents to tap into. Glean is also building an intelligence layer that understands company context and sits between the model and enterprise data.
