HomeUber Eats Debuts AI Assistant for Grocery Shopping
Uber Eats has unveiled a new AI-powered feature called "Cart Assistant," designed to streamline and accelerate the grocery shopping process. The beta version is currently live within the app.
To access the chatbot, users simply search for a grocery store in the Uber Eats app and tap the purple Cart Assistant icon on the store's page to start their shop.
Shoppers can type out a list or upload an image of one—whether it's a handwritten note or a screenshot of a recipe—and Cart Assistant will automatically populate their basket with the corresponding items. Users can then personalize their cart by switching to preferred brands or adding additional products from the store.

"Our users expressed a desire for a faster shopping method, and we understand how valuable your time is," said Uber CTO Praveen Neppalli Naga in a statement. "Cart Assistant enables you to go from idea to checkout in mere seconds."
This move could strengthen Uber Eats' position against competing food delivery and grocery apps that are also adopting AI chatbots. For instance, Instacart introduced an AI search tool powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT in 2023 to help customers save time and get personalized recommendations. DoorDash was also reportedly testing a similar AI chatbot, dubbed DashAI, around the same time.
Last year, both Uber Eats and its rival DoorDash integrated with ChatGPT to simplify food ordering. Uber Eats' integration allows U.S. users to browse local restaurant menus directly within ChatGPT before completing their purchase in the Uber Eats app. DoorDash's version lets users request meal plans and have all required ingredients automatically added to their cart.
