DoorDash deploys AI to accelerate merchant onboarding and dish photo editing
On Monday, DoorDash introduced new AI-powered tools that help merchants accelerate onboarding, refine dish photos, and build websites from their app listings.
This onboarding tool functions much like the one Amazon released in 2024. Merchants direct it to their website, and it automatically retrieves details such as photos, hours, and menu items to generate an app listing. Before publishing, merchants can review and adjust all information.
DoorDash has also overhauled its video library, allowing merchants to tag dishes within videos so customers can order directly. The library now displays metrics like total views, sales driven by videos, and new customer revenue.
Restaurants also gain access to photo-editing tools: AI Retouch replaces backgrounds, sharpens images, and adjusts lighting without altering the dish itself; AI Replate modifies dish photos to appear professionally plated by tweaking lighting and color. Merchants can also upload a reference image to apply a specific style to an existing photo.

“At DoorDash, we are always developing tools to help merchants thrive, from their first day on the platform through every subsequent order. These new tools embody our conviction that the right technology should eliminate friction, not create it, allowing merchants to concentrate on what they do best: preparing great food and delivering outstanding customer experiences,” said Brian Tolkin, DoorDash's head of merchant product, in a statement.
The company is also introducing new features to its commerce platform, including one that enables restaurant owners to quickly create a website using existing DoorDash content like menu items and photos. During a test of this feature, merchants experienced average order conversion rates close to 10%, according to the company.
DoorDash has also launched a new marketing campaign builder that allows merchants to automate content creation, email campaigns, and scheduling.
