Decagon, an AI-driven customer support startup, will announce the completion of its first tender offer, enabling over 300 employees to sell part of their vested shares at the company's latest valuation of $4.5 billion.
The employee secondary offering for the company, founded less than three years ago, is led by the same investors who backed its $250 million Series D less than two months ago: Coatue, Index, a16z, Definition, Forerunner, and Ribbit.
With competition for AI talent heating up, fast-growing young startups are increasingly discovering that one of the most effective ways to attract and retain top talent is to let employees convert some equity into cash through such transactions.
Other AI startups that have recently held employee tender offers include ElevenLabs, Linear, and Clay, which conducted two in a nine-month period.
These startups can provide employee liquidity largely because investors are eager to increase their stakes in such fast-growing companies.
"We had the chance to align recent investment demand and growth milestones with rewarding the team's dedication," Jesse Zhang, Decagon CEO and co-founder, told TechCrunch.
Although Decagon hasn't disclosed revenue figures since late 2024 — when its annual recurring revenue (ARR) crossed eight figures — its quickly rising valuation indicates that the company's growth is still on a steep upward path. The startup's current $4.5 billion valuation is triple the $1.5 billion announced in June.
Decagon develops AI "concierge" agents for large enterprises that autonomously handle customer inquiries via chat, email, and voice. The startup counts over 100 major clients, including Avis Budget Group, 1-800-Flowers, Quince, Oura Health, and Away Travel.
While many other companies — such as Sierra, Intercom, and Parloa — are also building AI agents to automate tasks traditionally done by human customer support reps, the market opportunity remains enormous. Gartner estimates there are 17 million contact center agents worldwide, a global workforce that these companies are now targeting for automation.
