Douyin Laoke Hotel Fees: Official Clarifies 12% Charge Not Linked to Ad Bidding
As reported on August 11, Doubao has integrated with Douyin Laoke’s hotel booking channel and will now apply an independent software service fee to all successful transactions. When merchants route hotel bookings through the Doubao interface to Douyin Laoke, they will incur a software service fee of 11.4% and a payment processing fee of 0.6%, bringing the total cost to approximately 12%.
Addressing market rumors that “Doubao charges a 12% commission on hotel recommendations,” Doubao’s PR Director Liu Xing clarified on Weibo on the evening of August 10 that this characterization is inaccurate. Currently, Doubao’s lifestyle services do not operate a paid promotion system. Hotel recommendations are not subject to advertising fees, and merchants cannot influence rankings or visibility through payments. The associated fees are only triggered upon order completion and are designated for channel service operations.

Liu Xing explained that, unlike platforms relying on a “commission + advertising” model, Doubao primarily charges based on transaction outcomes. Merchants are advised to focus on actual channel costs and the effectiveness of new orders. Additionally, Doubao’s lifestyle services remain in an early exploration phase and will continue to be optimized based on feedback from both users and merchants.
Previously, on July 27, the Douyin Life Services Learning Center published the “2026 Software Service Fee Policy for Specific Channels on the Douyin Life Services Platform.” According to this policy, new software service fee rules for specific channel orders took effect at 0:00 on August 10, 2026. Specific rates are communicated via the merchant’s Douyin Laoke backend.
The policy specifies that software service fees are calculated based on the user’s payment amount and any subsidies provided by entities other than the merchant (such as platform-wide coupons). Rates are determined by factors including merchant type, product category, POI classification, product type, and transaction channel. Doubao is included in the scope of specific channels, with rates subject to adjustment based on platform service conditions. Whether an order falls under a specific channel is determined by the settlement statement.
