Etsy launched its native app inside ChatGPT on Tuesday, giving shoppers a fresh way to browse over 100 million listings.
This experience moves past typical keyword searches. Rather than entering something like “wooden coffee table” and then sifting through filters, users can describe what they want in natural language. For example, “Help me find a Mother’s Day gift under $100 for my mom who loves gardening.”
Now available in beta, the feature lets users mention @Etsy in a prompt. The Etsy app within ChatGPT then shows relevant products for browsing, comparing, and clicking through to Etsy for more info or checkout.
This isn't Etsy's first try with ChatGPT. In September, Etsy joined ChatGPT's Instant Checkout integration as an early partner, allowing direct purchases within the chat. But the program ended in March, likely because it didn't meet OpenAI's expectations. Reports indicated Etsy saw low sales from that integration, prompting the company to build a native app inside ChatGPT instead.
Alongside this launch, Etsy is also testing a beta conversational search feature on its platform, designed to help users find gifts. The gift assistant works like a personal shopper, guiding users through a conversational experience to explore ideas, refine preferences, and discover relevant products.

This expands on Etsy's broader AI strategy, which includes an AI-powered discovery experience with curated collections and seller tools like a product title and description generator, plus a writing assistant for drafting buyer messages. In 2024, Etsy introduced a “Designed” label to mark AI-generated content, aiming for greater transparency as AI artwork grows on the platform.
The ChatGPT integration news arrives a week after Etsy reported its Q1 2026 earnings, exceeding revenue forecasts at $631 million, with marketplace gross merchandise sales up 6% year-over-year. Active buyers grew for the first time in two years to 86.6 million, and Etsy reported 5.6 million active sellers.
In February, Etsy announced it would sell Depop to eBay for $1.2 billion in cash, a move to refocus on its core marketplace.
Etsy joins a growing list of companies building native apps inside ChatGPT, such as Angi, SeatGeek, Tubi, and Wix. Developers have been able to create apps within the chatbot since October.
