Anysphere Introduces $200 Monthly Cursor AI Coding Subscription

Anysphere Introduces $200 Monthly Cursor AI Coding Subscription

Anysphere introduced a new $200 monthly subscription tier for its widely-used AI coding tool, Cursor, according to a company blog post published on Monday.

The Ultra plan provides subscribers with 20 times more usage of AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and xAI compared to the $20 per month Pro plan. Anysphere also states that Ultra subscribers will receive priority access to new features.

Anysphere CEO Michael Truell explained in the blog that the Ultra plan was made feasible through multi-year agreements with AI model providers. In recent months, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind have similarly launched higher-priced subscription options—ranging from $100 to $250 per month—to better serve their most active users and offer expanded usage limits.

The new, high-cost Cursor subscription is expected to generate additional revenue for Anysphere's already thriving business. Earlier this month, the company announced that Cursor reached $500 million in annualized recurring revenue and is being used by major corporations like Nvidia, Uber, and Adobe.

Anysphere became one of the fastest companies ever to achieve $100 million in annual recurring revenue, and its growth shows no signs of slowing. Based on prior reports from TechCrunch, Cursor's ARR has increased by $200 million since April.

However, competition in the "vibe-coding" tool space is intensifying, and several of the AI model providers that power Cursor are creating their own coding products. OpenAI reportedly acquired Cursor's competitor, Windsurf, to strengthen its AI coding offerings. Meanwhile, Anthropic continues to refine Claude Code, its proprietary coding tool built on its popular AI models.

It remains uncertain whether Anysphere can maintain this rapid growth without encountering conflicts with AI model providers. As these businesses expand, we've observed increasingly competitive tactics in the AI coding market. For example, Anthropic recently restricted Windsurf's direct access to Claude models in an effort to weaken its main rival, OpenAI.

At the same time, Anysphere has been dedicating more resources to developing its own AI models, designed to complement models from OpenAI and Anthropic. In May, the company launched "Tab," an AI model capable of suggesting code changes across multiple files.

In a recent TechCrunch interview, Anthropic co-founder Jared Kaplan expressed confidence in a long-term partnership with Cursor. Anysphere's multi-year agreements with Anthropic and other model providers indicate these relationships are stable for now. Still, the battle for users continues to grow more fierce.
