By applying AI tools to Syngenta's global product portfolio, Heritable utilizes crop trial data and localized geographical information to predict the highest-performing commercial seed varieties for different regions. The objective is to forecast the performance of vegetable seed varieties for growers worldwide on a micro-scale, achieving precise recommendations accurate to an area of roughly 10 meters by 10 meters.
Matthew Johnston, Global Head of Vegetable Seeds and Flowers at Syngenta, emphasized the significant potential of AI in agriculture. "Selecting the right seed is crucial for a grower's success. Emerging technologies like AI enable us to deliver superior innovation directly to the field or greenhouse," he stated.
Syngenta already employs AI in various aspects of its business, including bio-stimulant and fertilizer development. Recently, the company introduced an AI chatbot named 'Cropwise AI' on its Cropwise digital platform. This tool assists growers in making informed crop decisions by analyzing relevant data.
