One year after reMarkable launched its Paper Pro digital notebook featuring an 11.8-inch color E Ink display, the company is introducing a more compact model designed for portability. The new reMarkable Paper Pro Move feels almost like snapping last year’s Paper Pro in half—it’s smaller, sleeker, and fits easily in a pocket, much like a slim paperback. Despite its 7.3-inch screen, when you turn the device sideways, its height matches the width of the original Paper Pro, giving you almost as much writing space without feeling cramped.
Starting today, the Paper Pro Move is available for pre-order at $449, which includes the standard Marker stylus that charges magnetically when attached. A $499 bundle offers the upgraded Marker Plus, featuring a built-in eraser button. While the larger Paper Pro remains on sale at $629, the new Move—less than half the size—still comes at a price that reflects its premium features.

Image: reMarkableAt 7.7 inches tall and 4.24 inches wide, the Paper Pro Move is comparable to the 7th-gen iPad Mini, though about an inch narrower. It's slightly thicker than the original Paper Pro but weighs less than half as much. Both devices include 64GB of storage, but the Move runs on a 1.7GHz dual-core Cortex-A55 processor and a smaller 2,334mAh battery—good for up to two weeks of use per charge.
Unlike Amazon and Kobo, which use E Ink’s Kaleido technology with a color filter on top of a monochrome display, the Paper Pro Move features a custom 7.3-inch Gallery 3 E Ink panel—the same advanced screen used in the original Paper Pro. It blends four different ink particles to create rich, accurate colors, although this comes at the cost of slower refresh rates.

Image: reMarkableDespite its vibrant color screen, the Paper Pro Move isn’t meant to replace color e-readers like the Kindle Colorsoft. It doesn't connect to online bookstores and only supports PDF and ePub files, with a front light that’s dimmer than on most E Ink devices. Primarily, it’s an advanced note-taking tool, offering templates such as daily planners, handwritten-to-digital text conversion, and document annotation.
reMarkable is also rolling out new software features starting with the Paper Pro Move—including a movable on-screen toolbar for quick pen and tool selection, and handwriting search capabilities. While standard tools like handwriting conversion, cloud sync, and mobile access are included, more advanced functions—such as editing notes on mobile apps, sharing to Slack, and searching handwritten notes—require a reMarkable Connect subscription ($2.99/month) after a 100-day free trial.
