NVIDIA Debuts Rubin Acceleration Platform: 3nm Chip with 36B Transistors Delivers 5x Performance Boost
During the GTC2026 Annual Conference, Jensen Huang, founder of NVIDIA, introduced the next-generation AI acceleration platform codenamed "Vera Rubin." Named after the astronomer who provided evidence for dark matter, this platform marks NVIDIA's deep transition from a single-chip supplier to a full-stack AI factory infrastructure provider. The Rubin GPU is built on TSMC's 3nm process, integrating 33.6 billion transistors — a 60% increase over its predecessor, Blackwell.

The Rubin platform redefines supercomputing standards with its "six-chip collaboration" approach: the super chip integrates a Vera CPU and two Rubin GPUs, paired with 288GB of HBM4 memory delivering up to 22TB/s bandwidth. In terms of performance, the Rubin achieves 50 PFLOPS of FP4 inference compute — five times that of Blackwell — while improving performance per watt by tenfold, substantially lowering the training barrier for mixture-of-experts (MoE) models. NVIDIA also revealed plans for the Rubin Ultra, expected in 2027, with its NVL576 configuration projected to push inference compute to 15 ExaFLOPS.
