Recent buzz in the AI space has been hard to ignore. Claude Code earned a solid reputation for its performance, but its strict real-name verification and account bans frustrated many developers. China's well-known low-code team JeecgBoot was no exception. To avoid disruptions, they decided to test Google’s new Gemini CLI.
What began as a backup-to-primary migration test quickly turned into a stressful incident, triggered by a deceptively simple “cold fact.”
Core Capabilities: Skills Mechanism Enables a Seamless Switch
For teams relying on low-code frameworks like JeecgBoot , the top priority is whether custom skills can run smoothly.
Testing revealed that Gemini CLI performs surprisingly well here. It directly recognizes and executes the Markdown trigger commands used by Claude Code. Whether generating linked charts for block reports with a single sentence, automatically configuring Online forms and connecting print templates, or building a data dashboard from scratch, Gemini handles it all confidently. Its logical reasoning for complex tasks outpaces many domestic large models, effectively achieving "seamless migration, ready to use immediately."

In daily Git commits, Maven compilation, or NPM builds, Gemini CLI performs at an average level. Long task wait times and status judgments are reliable enough.
However, the ecosystem gap remains clear. Claude Code has been around longer, with mature surrounding scripts, Chinese tutorials, and troubleshooting guides. In contrast, Gemini CLI is still a newcomer—when issues arise, users often have to rely on English documentation.

The most dramatic moment of this test came next. When Gemini automatically installed skills and cleaned up temporary files, it executed a deletion command with a ~ (tilde) path in the PowerShell environment.
Gemini intended to delete a temporary folder it named ~, and even added double quotes to prevent escape issues. But it underestimated PowerShell’s quirks—under the -Path parameter, a tilde is interpreted as the user’s home directory, quoted or not. That turned the command into: recursively delete the entire user home directory.
In an instant, downloads, documents, and even some software caches were erased. This exposed AI’s lack of cross-platform experience (especially on Windows) and served as a reminder to all developers: never grant too much permission to AI.
Experience Summary: Backups Are Great, But Don’t Hand Over the Root Password
The Jeecg team’s final takeaway: Gemini CLI has real potential, with strong logic and reasoning, and can serve as a primary alternative to Claude.
