HomeGoogle's PC Android Release Stuns in Early Glimpse
Google continues to steadily build anticipation for its rumored initiative to bring Android to PCs by unifying it with ChromeOS. Now, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon has joined the conversation, revealing that he has seen a version of the software and is already eager to get his hands on one.
Amon made these remarks alongside Google’s Head of Platforms and Devices, Rick Osterloh, during the opening keynote of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit. The event will later showcase the company’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. Before that announcement, both executives hinted at future collaborations between Google and Qualcomm spanning automotive technology and consumer PCs.
“Historically, we’ve maintained distinct systems for PCs and smartphones, but we’ve now started a project to merge them,” Osterloh explained. “Together, we're developing a shared technical foundation for our PC and desktop computing platforms.”
He went on to clarify that Google’s strategy includes integrating Gemini and the complete Android AI framework, as well as all of its applications and developer ecosystem, into the PC space. “This represents another way Android will be able to meet user needs across every computing segment.”
“I’ve seen it firsthand—and it’s amazing,” Amon responded enthusiastically. “It truly realizes the vision of merging mobile and PC experiences. I can’t wait to own one.”
The last update on Google’s plan came in July, when Android lead Sameer Samat confirmed the company is “combining ChromeOS and Android into a single platform.” This follows efforts initiated last year to develop ChromeOS using components of the Android framework.
