Garmin now offers a free Google Maps app for most of its smartwatches, providing turn-by-turn guidance for walking, cycling, and running activities.
Unlike the full-featured Google Maps on Wear OS—which supports searching and smartphone-free navigation—Garmin’s app offers more limited functionality, much like the Apple Watch version. It only delivers basic turn instructions, and you need to set your destination using the Google Maps mobile app on an Android phone that remains nearby. The Garmin Connect IQ store listing does not mention iPhone or iOS compatibility.

Image: GarminAccording to Garmin, the app will gently vibrate your watch to alert you of upcoming turns, so you don’t have to constantly check the display. Tapping the screen shows the next three turns. Your watch will also keep tracking walking, running, and biking metrics while you navigate with Google Maps.
The Google Maps app is now available in Garmin’s Connect IQ Store and supports over 90 different smartwatch models.
