New Opt-Out Switch
Google will integrate a new opt-out toggle into its existing website management tools. This feature allows site owners to independently determine whether their websites are included in Google's generative AI search capabilities.
The affected features include the widely anticipated AI Overviews and AI-powered streams. Additionally, website owners can choose whether their content contributes to generating related AI responses.
Independent of Regular Search
Opting out of generative AI search will not negatively impact a site's visibility in standard search results. Google has confirmed that this control feature will not influence regular search rankings.
According to media reports, this setting applies exclusively to the mentioned Google Search products. The standalone AI assistant app, Gemini, remains unaffected by this toggle.
