General Intuition US Inc. announced this week that it has raised $320 million in Series A funding. The company intends to use the capital to develop AI models capable of perceiving, predicting, and acting in both virtual and physical environments.

Although physical AI dominates discussions in robotics, General Intuition claims it is pursuing a distinct strategy. Rather than collecting hundreds or thousands of hours of real-world data or generating simulated data, the company leverages billions of gameplay clips uploaded to Medal — a platform where users share gaming moments. Pim de Witte, founder and CEO of General Intuition, also co-founded Medal.

The gaming clips capture humans perceiving an environment and making decisions on how to navigate it. According to the company, this is what makes them valuable. Text-based models merely offer descriptions of reality, which are insufficient for training physical AI.

Additionally, the videos include embedded action labels that record exactly which button a player presses and when, providing General Intuition with deeper insight into players' decision-making processes.

The New York-based company stated that this Series A round values it at $2.3 billion. The funding brings its total raised to $454 million, following the $134 million it secured in October. General Catalyst led the round, with participation from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and former Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

General Intuition gains rapid momentum

Most powerful foundation models are trained on text. However, General Intuition argues that human intelligence extends far beyond language. It evolved over millennia through interaction and exploration, driven by a continuous cycle of intent, action, and consequences across varied environments, the company asserts.

Truly intelligent machines must transition from words to worlds, gaining the ability to perceive, anticipate, and improvise. According to General Intuition, they need to develop a general intuition of reality.

The company explains that its models learn from unique, action-labeled video datasets spanning countless environments. This diversity, it says, results in uniquely capable agentic systems.

Since its founding in 2015, General Intuition has focused on developing action models that determine which actions to take, and world models that predict the outcomes of those actions.

The company plans to use the funding to expand its compute capacity and concentrate on pretraining the next version of its model. According to TechCrunch, General Intuition also aims to make its API more widely available this summer.
