Ex-DeepMind team's quantitative AI startup EquiLibre closes Series A at $500M valuation.

Founded by three former DeepMind researchers, the Prague-based AI lab EquiLibre Technologies recently closed its Series A funding round at a valuation of $500 million. This round was led by Creandum and has been confirmed as its largest single investment to date.
EquiLibre specializes in applying reinforcement learning (RL) to financial trading and has partnered with quantitative investment firm Tower Research Capital. Its algorithmic agents handle billions of dollars in daily transactions across the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indices. Since entering the cryptocurrency market in 2025, the company has maintained a monthly record of zero losses and successfully expanded into traditional stock exchanges.
The core team at EquiLibre is legendary. Founders Martin Schmid, Rudolf Kadlec, and Matej Moravcik previously led the development of DeepStack, the first AI program to defeat human professional players in no-limit Texas Hold'em, while working at Alphabet's Alberta Artificial Intelligence Research Office, which closed in 2023. The team also benefits from strong academic backing, with advisory board members including 2024 Turing Award winner and reinforcement learning pioneer Rich Sutton.
Despite competition from industry giants such as Jane Street, which possess tens of thousands of GPUs, EquiLibre is committed to extracting more computing power from fewer chips and plans to launch one of the largest computing clusters in Central and Eastern Europe. Earlier, the company secured a $10 million seed round led by Blossom Capital at a valuation of $140 million. As reinforcement learning becomes an industry standard in quantitative trading, EquiLibre—leveraging its early technological expertise—is accelerating the industrial application of AI decision-making, from game theory to the world's leading financial markets.
