DeepSeek Suffers Extended Outage, Most Services Still Unavailable
DeepSeek, a leading provider of AI large language models, experienced a major service outage that began on the evening of March 29. The disruption affected both the web platform and mobile app, causing users to encounter "server busy" errors and network retry prompts during interactions. This led to interrupted conversations, data loss, login failures, and a cascading chain of issues. The incident quickly drew widespread attention and sparked industry-wide discussion.
According to technical monitoring, the anomaly was first detected at 9:35 PM on March 29. The engineering team began investigating immediately and announced a preliminary recovery at 11:23 PM. However, early on March 30, system performance experienced another disruption. DeepSeek launched a second investigation at 12:20 AM and deployed a fix at 1:24 AM. Despite multiple emergency interventions, some features had still not fully recovered by 9:00 AM on March 30. As of now, DeepSeek has not disclosed the root cause of the extended outage or outlined any compensation plans.
This outage underscores the significant challenges large model providers face in managing computing power allocation and backend architecture stability, especially as user numbers grow explosively.
