Aliyun QoderWork Unveils Peak-Valley Token: Off-Peak Qwen3.7-Max Usage at 20% Discount

Alibaba Cloud has announced that QoderWork now offers the "Peak-Valley Token" billing model. By encouraging users to run AI workloads during off-peak hours, this approach enables precise allocation of resources like the Qwen3.7 series large models, providing significant cost savings for enterprises and developers deploying large model applications.
The new "Peak-Valley Token" promotion applies primarily to nighttime hours, from 10 PM to 8 AM the next day. Tasks executed during this window automatically qualify for discounts as low as 20%, with the flagship Qwen3.7-Max model seeing the deepest reduction. This night-time discount extends across all product lines, including QoderWork, QoderDesktop, and the CLI (Command Line Interface).
In practice, users can schedule tasks during the day or submit long-running instructions before bedtime. The intelligent agent then autonomously handles the entire workflow overnight, delivering results ready for review the next morning. This off-peak execution model not only eases daytime computing pressure but also cuts token consumption to between 20% and 40% of daytime levels.
Industry experts note that as large models evolve toward multimodal, long-sequence, and complex agent collaboration, the industry faces twin challenges of compute power shortages and commercial profitability. Alibaba Cloud's move introduces a time-of-use billing concept for AI compute, akin to electricity pricing, and leverages pricing incentives to effectively allocate idle nighttime capacity. This model could lower the marginal cost of round-the-clock AI agent deployment for enterprises, driving a shift from real-time interaction to autonomous nighttime production.

So they’re basically charging you extra for using AI during peak hours and giving a 20% discount when nobody’s watching? 🤔 Kinda like surge pricing but for GPUs. Wonder if this will actually push developers to schedule their batch jobs at 3am or just make them annoyed. Also, is "Peak-Valley Token" a fancy way of saying "we need to maximize idle resource utilization"? 😅
