Apple CEO Tim Cook has indicated to investors that the company remains open to strategic acquisitions and partnerships to accelerate its progress in artificial intelligence.
Cook made these remarks during Apple's Q4 2025 earnings call this week. He also provided a brief update on the company's next-generation, AI-powered Siri, confirming the service is still scheduled for launch in 2026.
"We're making significant headway and, as previously communicated, we anticipate a release next year," Cook stated in his opening address.
During the call, an analyst asked Cook if Apple was continuing its three-part strategy for developing its personalized AI. This approach combines proprietary Apple foundation models, partnerships with third-party large language model providers, and targeted acquisitions.
Cook affirmed the company's openness to acquisitions, explaining that Apple continuously evaluates the market for merger and acquisition opportunities and is "willing to pursue M&A if it aligns with and accelerates our technology roadmap."
In a pre-earnings interview with CNBC, Cook noted Apple plans to announce further AI partnerships similar to its integration of OpenAI's ChatGPT into Siri and Apple Intelligence.
"Our strategy is to expand our integrations with additional partners over time," Cook told the network.
On the earnings call, Cook also detailed Apple's process of developing foundation models, deploying them on devices, and utilizing them in Private Cloud Compute. This is the company's cloud intelligence system engineered for secure, private AI processing.
Cook later shared that Apple is already leveraging its Private Cloud Compute technology for a growing volume of Siri requests and is actively expanding that infrastructure.
"In fact, the manufacturing facility producing servers for Apple Intelligence commenced operations in Houston just weeks ago. We have a planned ramp-up for deployment in our data centers, and the infrastructure is robust," he explained.
Cook further suggested that AI capabilities are becoming a consideration for consumers when choosing a new smartphone.
"Apple Intelligence is certainly a factor now, and we are optimistic about its increasing influence on purchasing decisions," he concluded.
