Tencent Cloud Unveils CodeBuddy NPC, Evolving From Code Assistant to Autonomous AI Agent

On July 23, Tencent Cloud introduced CodeBuddy NPC, a new cloud-based R&D AI agent. Built as an enterprise-grade upgrade to the CodeBuddy assistant, it integrates natively with the Tencent Cloud CNB platform, pulling data from issues, repositories, pull requests, and CI/CD pipelines to enable end-to-end cloud development.
Unlike traditional on-premises tools, CodeBuddy NPC allows developers to submit task instructions via tickets. The agent then autonomously handles the entire workflow: planning solutions, writing code, creating pull requests, and running automated tests. It also self-corrects based on CI feedback.
The platform supports multi-role NPC teams for collaborative workflows, managing tasks like project management, content creation, asset integration, and code reviews. By optimizing prompts, tool calls, and caching, Tencent Cloud reduced first-round Token usage by over 90% (from 20,000 to ~2,000) and enables flexible model switching based on task complexity.
As AI coding shifts from simple generation to autonomous agents, CodeBuddy NPC marks a milestone in enterprise R&D. It lowers large model application costs while driving the intelligent reconstruction of cloud-native development workflows.
