Saber Denies AI Replacing Game Scriptwriters as Former Chief Screenwriter Counters: You Can't Have It Both Ways
Saber Interactive, the studio behind the upcoming title "Rideshare Stimulator," is facing backlash regarding scriptwriting credits. Announced last month and developed by its Unigine division, the project has sparked a public dispute. Former lead writer Stella Sacco took to social media to claim she was replaced by ChatGPT during production, with all passenger voiceovers allegedly generated by AI. She further raised concerns about whether the studio shifted creative direction mid-development or intentionally omitted AI usage from the Steam store page.
Saber CEO Matthew Karch firmly rejected these allegations, asserting that neither Saber nor Unigine substituted human writers with AI. He clarified that the narrative was entirely crafted by humans, though he admitted the game features an experimental free-ride mode that utilizes AI to handle infinite passenger interactions. Highlighting the company’s long-standing use of AI tools since 2001 to enhance NPC behavior and gameplay, Karch assured that none of the firm’s 3,000+ staff members face replacement by artificial intelligence.
Steam Page Lacks AI Disclosure Despite Obvious AI Indicators
The controversy centers on transparency. While the game’s trailer reveals AI-generated dialogue and voice acting for simulated passengers, the Steam store page for "Rideshare Stimulator" makes no mention of generative AI. As player sentiment toward AI content remains polarized, the decision to disclose such technology has become a critical test of developer integrity. Concealing AI involvement often provokes greater backlash than the technology itself.
