Runway Launches Media Router, Auto-Switching AI Models to Save Tokens from Creative Validation to Final Production
Runway has launched the Runway Media Router, a tool that enables seamless switching between AI models for generating images, videos, and audio based on the specific use case. The system organizes model selection around three key factors: quality, processing speed, and cost. It automatically selects the appropriate model for each request depending on priority, greatly simplifying the process for developers who would otherwise have to compare and manually switch between models.

Runway categorizes model usage into three scenarios: fast generation for the creative validation phase, where speed outweighs fine-tuning; slow but high-quality for final production, where detail and precision are paramount; and medium quality with low cost for budget-conscious daily tasks. For instance, video generation during creative validation prioritizes speed, while the final production stage demands quality. The system automatically selects the best model for each phase.
