Qodo Partners with Google Cloud to Offer Free AI Code Review Tools for Developers

Qodo, an Israel-based AI coding startup focused on code quality, has launched a partnership with Google Cloud to enhance AI-generated software integrity.

As businesses increasingly depend on AI for coding, the demand for robust oversight and quality assurance tools grows.

Qodo’s CEO Itamar Friedman notes that AI-generated code is now central to modern development.

“Picture a future where AI writes all code; humans can’t review it all,” Friedman said. “We need systems to ensure code aligns with intended values.”

Qodo’s Path to Innovation

Prior to its Google Cloud partnership, Qodo made significant strides in enterprise software development.

Formerly Codium, the company rebranded to Qodo in fall 2024, emphasizing comprehensive code quality and AI-driven support.

In February 2025, Qodo released Qodo-Embed-1-1.5B, a high-performing, open-source code embedding model with 1.5 billion parameters.

This model excelled on the Code Information Retrieval Benchmark (CoIR), surpassing larger models from OpenAI and Salesforce, enabling precise code search and context retrieval across multi-language codebases for enterprise use.

In December 2024, Qodo introduced Qodo Cover, an AI-driven tool for regression testing, showcased at AWS re:Invent by contributing validated code to Hugging Face’s PyTorch Image Models repository.

Qodo focuses on modular AI agents for tasks like test generation and code review, prioritizing reliable integration of AI-generated code into complex systems, a critical need as AI’s role in enterprise software grows.

“We’re building tools to monitor AI systems, ensuring both technical and ethical standards,” Friedman said.

Free Code Review for Open Source

The partnership’s cornerstone is Qodo Merge, an AI-powered code review tool leveraging Google’s Gemini models.

Qodo Merge detects bugs, structural flaws, and deviations from best practices.

Offered free to open-source maintainers, it strengthens the quality of community-driven projects.

“Supporting open source ensures high standards across the development ecosystem, enabling confident, AI-driven coding,” Friedman said.

Seamless Google Cloud Integration

Qodo’s tools are now embedded in Google Cloud, accessible via Vertex AI and the Google Cloud Marketplace.

QodoEmbed, the high-efficiency code embedding model, is available in Vertex AI’s Model Garden.

“Our model in Google’s Model Garden simplifies deployment for clients,” Friedman said.

It supports fast, accurate code search and retrieval, optimized for enterprise RAG pipelines and Google Cloud’s GPU infrastructure.

Advanced AI Code Assistance

Qodo Gen, Qodo’s AI code assistant, now integrates Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro model for more precise, context-aware code suggestions, enhancing AI-assisted development.

These upgrades support emerging workflows like automated commit-and-review cycles driven by AI agents.

Flexible Tools for Enterprises

Qodo’s platform offers modular, headless, and head-full solutions, allowing enterprises to integrate tools like code review and embeddings via API, CLI, or native connectors.

“We provide flexible technology so enterprises can customize workflows,” Friedman said.

Used by Fortune 500 companies like Intuit and NVIDIA, Qodo’s tools are showcased in NVIDIA’s AI workflows at industry events.

Empowering Startups with Google Cloud Perks

Qodo joins Google Cloud’s Startup Perks program, offering a 50% discount on its tools for non-open-source, commercial products to eligible startups.

This initiative makes enterprise-grade code quality tools accessible to growing companies.

“We’re helping startups and enterprises integrate Qodo with Google Cloud, with discounts to ease adoption,” Friedman said.

Friedman compares Qodo to observability providers like Datadog, ensuring code integrity regardless of origin.
