Google is making a strategic return to the smart glasses market.
During Tuesday’s Google I/O event, the tech giant unveiled a collaboration with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster to launch a new series of AI-enabled eyewear. Designed in partnership with Samsung, these devices are optimized for seamless integration with both Android and iOS platforms and are scheduled for release later this year.
Google refers to these devices as “audio glasses,” enabling users to interact through voice commands and leverage its suite of apps and services, including Gemini, to complete tasks.

Interaction is straightforward: users speak to their glasses, and the synced device executes the request. A demo presented at the event featured a Google employee ordering coffee online simply by speaking to the device.
Google has experimented with smart glasses multiple times in the past. Its earlier attempt, Google Glass, famously sparked the term “glassholes” due to privacy concerns and social backlash.
The landscape has evolved significantly since then. Major players, particularly Meta, along with numerous startups and smaller enterprises, have heavily invested in this sector.
