Perplexity's Latest AI Creates Spreadsheets and Dashboards
Perplexity, the AI-powered search engine challenging Google, launched Perplexity Labs on Thursday. This new tool, available to subscribers of the $20 monthly Pro plan, enables users to generate reports, spreadsheets, dashboards, and other project assets.
Perplexity Labs can be accessed via web browsers and on iOS and Android apps, with versions for Mac and Windows applications coming soon.
According to a company blog post, "Perplexity Labs is designed to assist with a wide range of professional and personal projects." The tool is built for more complex tasks that require approximately ten minutes or more, utilizing advanced capabilities like sophisticated file generation and the creation of mini-applications.
The launch of Labs coincides with the release of a slide deck creation tool by the viral AI agent platform Manus. This move is part of Perplexity's strategy to expand beyond its primary search functionality. The company is also currently previewing a web browser named Comet and recently acquired Read.vc, a social network for professionals.

It leverages tools including web search, code execution, and chart and image generation to produce detailed reports and visualizations. The platform can also build interactive web apps and write code to organize data, apply formulas, and draft documents.
All files generated during a Labs session—such as charts, images, and code—are neatly organized within a dedicated tab for easy viewing or download. "These expanded capabilities allow you to develop a more diverse set of deliverables for any project," Perplexity's blog post states.
While the concept is promising, AI technology remains imperfect, meaning Labs may not always deliver flawless results. A full evaluation, of course, will require hands-on testing.

Just tried this new feature and it's a game-changer for my weekly reports! The dashboard creation is surprisingly intuitive, though I wonder how it handles complex financial modeling compared to specialized tools like Airtable. The $20 price point seems fair if it truly replaces 2-3 other subscriptions. 🤔
