Past Joke Trends Trick Google AI Search Into Citing 2027 as Next Year
Google recently upgraded its search engine with artificial intelligence, but the AI Overviews feature once again made a basic common sense mistake. Several users found that when searching for the seemingly simple question "Is 2027 next year?" on Google, the AI gave a ridiculously wrong answer.
The AI insisted that 2027 was still two years away, a surprisingly basic error that quickly drew widespread attention and discussion on social media.

Old Jokes Recycled, Wrong Answers Accepted
After further investigation, tech media traced the source of Google AI's logical confusion to contamination from old online posts. The system incorrectly referenced outdated joke posts from Instagram and Reddit when generating answers.
These posts were originally mocking earlier incorrect answers from other platforms or users on the same topic. However, Google's AI could not differentiate humor from facts. It treated these sarcastic errors as authoritative sources and included them in the final search summary.
Large Models Often Make "Blunders"
This is not the first time Google's AI search has embarrassed itself publicly. Earlier, the feature drew criticism for suggesting absurd advice like "using non-toxic glue to keep cheese on pizza." Although the company has been working on fixes, large models fundamentally rely on probabilistic data matching and remain easily misled by junk information and satirical jokes online.
Industry experts noted that this blunder once again reveals weaknesses in current search technology's semantic understanding. Given shifting time concepts and uniquely human humor, if large models cannot develop real-time awareness and logical reasoning, similar "AI hallucinations" will likely persist.
