Otter.ai Secures $320 Million Growth Funding From General Catalyst for Meeting Tool

On Tuesday, Otter.ai, a meeting note-taking platform, announced a $320 million investment from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund (CVF). This fund supports startups without requiring equity dilution, instead seeking returns based on marketing performance.
Otter.ai plans to deploy these funds to accelerate enterprise growth, refine its go-to-market strategy, expand internationally, and drive product innovation.
According to PitchBook data, the nearly decade-old startup has secured $50 million in total funding, with its previous round closing in 2021.
Last year, Otter surpassed $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR). The company indicated it is approaching new milestones but withheld specific updated figures.
The platform now reports 40 million users, up from 25 million last year. However, in a crowded market for meeting notes, retaining customers remains a key challenge. Otter did not disclose monthly active user counts or churn rates.
“Voice represents one of the largest untapped opportunities in enterprise AI, and Otter is leading this space—a conviction strengthened by its rapid growth,” said Pranav Singhvi, Partner and Co-founder of CVF at General Catalyst. “By helping enterprises capture critical voice data and convert it into actionable insights, Otter enables faster teams, sharper decisions, and compounding productivity, making it an ideal partner for CVF.”
The market features intense competition from well-funded notetakers like Fireflies.ai, Granola, and Read AI. New entrants such as Calendly, Wispr, and Superhuman (which acquired Fathom) are also active, alongside competitors like Circleback, Talat, and Quill.
Most of these tools aim to integrate with enterprise systems to automate workflows using meeting data. Otter is pursuing a similar path, recently launching a meeting assistant, cross-app search capabilities, and integrations with other AI tools.
Alex Gay, Otter’s newly appointed CMO from Superhuman, told TechCrunch at the HumanX conference last month that the company sees significant potential in transforming transcripts into actionable roadmaps for professionals with back-to-back schedules.
“We identified a major pain point for meeting-heavy roles, where individuals are constantly in conversations. For these users, meetings constitute their core work, whether involving customer interactions or sales strategy discussions. However, meetings are often inefficient, as participants spend the first twenty minutes recapping previous discussions to catch everyone up,” he explained.
Otter is currently experimenting with delivering insights before, during, and after meetings. It is testing a pre-brief feature that provides users with relevant details and background context from previous conversations across various platforms. Additionally, the company is piloting a Live Assist feature, allowing users to query the AI assistant in real-time during meetings for immediate knowledge retrieval.
