Recently, prominent industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo disclosed that AI leader OpenAI is making a deeper push into hardware by partnering with top mobile chipmakers Qualcomm and MediaTek to develop custom smartphone chips. The company has chosen Luxshare-precision as its sole manufacturing partner, with mass production expected by 2028. This move signals OpenAI's ambition to reshape mobile interaction through a vertically integrated software and hardware strategy.
AI smartphones powered by these chips will revolutionize the current app-centric interaction model, transitioning to a system built around AI agents. Users will be able to perform complex tasks directly from the device, without needing to switch between or manually open multiple apps.
