Manus Unveils 'My Computer' Desktop Feature for Quick Coding and File Automation
Meta's AI agent unicorn platform, Manus , officially launched its desktop app on March 16, introducing the core feature "My Computer." This marks a major leap for AI agents, moving from cloud-based isolated environments to direct local system operations. Earlier, Manus raised $75 million in a funding round led by top Silicon Valley venture capital firm Benchmark, at a $500 million valuation. After being acquired by Meta, it accelerated deep integration with mainstream operating systems.

With this update, Manus can directly control the underlying systems of macOS (Apple Silicon) and Windows, enabling independent file management, software scheduling, and automation development. Official test data shows the agent can build a real-time meeting translation app in just 20 minutes using only terminal commands, without needing traditional development tools like Xcode. For large-scale office tasks, it can automatically categorize thousands of photos and perform batch formatting and renaming on hundreds of invoices.
On the privacy and security front, Manus has implemented a strict "human intervention" authorization mechanism, requiring user confirmation for every terminal command execution to safeguard local data and system changes. As AI agents evolve from simple conversational interactions to complex system-level collaboration, Manus 's local deployment will not only significantly boost the productivity potential of Meta's social ecosystem but also drive AI's substantive transition from "assisting tools" to "digital employees."
