MoEngage, an Indian customer engagement software company, has acquired San Francisco-based startup Aampe in an all-cash deal, betting that AI agents making individual customer decisions will define the future of marketing.
MoEngage did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, but a source familiar with the matter told TechCrunch that the all-cash transaction is worth tens of millions of dollars.
Founded in 2020, Aampe builds software that assigns a unique AI agent to each customer, enabling brands to personalize messaging based on individual behavior rather than traditional audience segments or campaign rules. The startup serves over 30 customers across the U.S., Europe, and Asia-Pacific, and has grown annual recurring revenue by 150% over the past year, according to MoEngage co-founder and CEO Raviteja Dodda.
Dodda told TechCrunch the acquisition will help MoEngage win customers currently using competing marketing platforms like Salesforce and Adobe.
“A significant portion of our growth comes from enterprise customers migrating from Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Adobe Experience Cloud,” Dodda said.
MoEngage recently closed three to four multimillion-dollar annual contract value deals with customers who moved from Salesforce, Dodda noted. He expects the Aampe acquisition to help secure more such clients.
The deal arrives amid a race among software companies to embed AI deeper into enterprise applications, moving beyond tools that generate content or assist employees toward agents that make autonomous decisions. In marketing, this includes deciding which customers to target, what messages to send, and when to send them.
Brands like Swiggy, Grab, and Taxfix use Aampe’s technology, and some of them also rely on MoEngage’s customer engagement platform.
The acquisition comes more than six months after MoEngage raised $280 million through a combination of primary and secondary transactions. Around 20 Aampe employees will join MoEngage, bringing its total workforce to roughly 820 people.
Founded in 2020, Aampe has raised about $28 million across three funding rounds. Its investors include Peak XV Partners, Z47, and Theory Ventures.
