Major tech companies, including Meta, Google, and Samsung, and potentially soon Apple, are all developing AI-powered smart glasses, making them one of the most talked-about gadgets today. HTC is joining the fray with its new Vive Eagle smart glasses, featuring integrated speakers, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and an AI voice assistant.
While initially launching in Taiwan, the Vive Eagle glasses position themselves as a competitor to Meta's Ray-Ban and Oakley models. A key feature is AI-powered real-time image translation, allowing wearers to use the Vive voice assistant to translate what they see into 13 languages.
Additional functionalities include setting voice reminders, getting local dining suggestions, and capturing quick notes. HTC emphasizes the glasses' lightweight design at just 49 grams, comparable to the weight of Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses.
Priced at approximately $520, the Vive Eagle glasses come with Zeiss sun lenses and are available in red, brown, gray, or black frames. HTC has not announced plans for a North American or European release, but if it does, Meta could face new competition in the smart glasses market.
