Google Tests AI-Powered Web Guide to Organize Search Results
Google is launching a new AI-powered feature called Web Guide this Thursday, designed to organize search results. This Search Labs experiment uses AI to group web pages on the results page based on specific aspects of your search query.
Search Labs allows Google to test new ideas by letting users opt into experiments they find interesting. Users can enable or disable these features at any time. Current experiments include Google's AI Mode, Notebook LM, the filmmaking tool Flow, and more niche concepts like an audio show based on your Google Discover feed.
The Web Guide experiment is a variation of the fan-out display technique already used in Google's AI Mode. Powered by Gemini, it helps Google better understand your query and surface relevant pages that a traditional search might miss.

Examples include "how to solo travel in Japan" or a multi-part question like, "My family is spread across multiple time zones. What are the best tools for staying connected and maintaining close relationships despite the distance?"
Each section of the results focuses on a different type of answer. For the solo travel query, Web Guide might create groups for comprehensive guides, safety tips, personal experience stories, and more.
The experiment will be available to opted-in users, initially reorganizing results on the Web tab. You can toggle the Web View off within that tab to see standard results without leaving the experiment entirely.
Google plans to expand the experiment to other parts of Search, including the "All" tab, over time.
