Google iOS App to Harness AI for Simplifying Complex Jargon
Google has introduced a new AI tool designed to help iPhone users better understand complex or confusing online content. The Simplify feature, launching today in the Google app for iOS, creates a simplified and more readable version of selected text directly within the web page you're viewing.
Simplify uses Google’s Gemini AI model and was created by Google Research to make technical terms easier to grasp without omitting important information. For instance, the tool can clarify medical concepts like “emphysema” (damage to the lungs' air sacs) and “fibrosis” (scarring due to tissue damage) found in articles and journals, so users don't have to look up definitions elsewhere.

Simplified text appears in a pop-up window that can be closed when it's not needed. GIF: GoogleIn testing, users rated simplified content as "significantly more helpful than the original complex text," though Google noted the study has limitations and requires ongoing monitoring for accuracy.
To use Simplify in the iOS Google app, highlight text on any website and select the Simplify option from the pop-up menu. When asked about Android and desktop Chrome availability, Google spokesperson Jennifer Kutz told The Verge, “We don’t have anything to announce yet, but we’re always working to bring helpful features to more products.”
