Google Unveils Veo 3.1 Lite Video Mode, Granting Ultra Subscribers Unlimited Generation

Google has introduced a new video generation mode, "Veo 3.1 - Lite [Low Priority]," exclusively for Ultra subscribers to boost creative output and cost efficiency. This mode’s key advantage is that it operates without consuming additional subscription credits, working alongside the existing "Veo 3.1 - Fast [Low Priority]" option to lower the barrier for high-quality AI video creation.
As the most affordable and responsive option in Google’s lineup, Veo 3.1 Lite costs less than half of the Fast version while matching its speed. Google plans to retire "Veo 3.1 Fast - Low Priority" on May 10, replacing it entirely with Lite, while the standard Veo 3.1 Fast tier keeps its current pricing. This adjustment targets heavy users, encouraging more creative experiments without depleting their credit reserves.
Amidst the market gap left by OpenAI’s suspension of Sora, Google has secured a strong lead in Western AI video generation, backed by extensive computing resources. While video quality comparisons still need market validation, Veo 3.1 Lite signals Google’s strategy to build a competitive moat through differentiated pricing and tiered services, leveraging its scale in the global video model arena.
This shift reflects an industry transition from pure "quality competition" to a broader contest of "computing efficiency and user engagement." By offering a credit-free lightweight solution, Google aims to gather more user data and optimize inference costs, reinforcing its long-term dominance in multi-modal large models.
