Statistical Imitation Is Not True Intelligence, Code Flaws Are More Hidden
Known as "the amazing kid," Hotz noted that after six months of rigorous testing, he found current AI programming tools are excellent for rapidly building project prototypes but struggle with the underlying details that determine software quality. He emphasized that large language models are essentially complex statistical systems; their core function is to mimic the distribution of programming code, not to truly understand or solve problems.
Consequently, AI agents can generate code that appears impressive on the surface, yet this masks hidden logical flaws and defects, making them harder to identify. Junior developers with insufficient expertise may fail to detect these subtle hardware and software issues, blindly integrating flawed code into production systems. This ultimately leads to extremely high maintenance costs and unpredictable failure risks down the line.
Industry Giants Show Divergent Attitudes, Cognitive Conflicts Intensify
Hotz admitted that his technical judgment has shifted from early optimism to skepticism, aligning his current stance more closely with Yann LeCun and Gary Marcus.
