Dou Bao Mobile Assistant refutes security concerns, says no official vulnerability reports, boosts protections
On February 27, 2026, ByteDance's Douyin Assistant team released an official statement addressing recent online rumors about alleged security vulnerabilities. The statement characterized the rumors as malicious hype and a clear example of black PR.
According to the statement, Douyin Assistant saw a surge in users during the Spring Festival. The company established a security vulnerability response platform to encourage responsible reporting. However, to date, the team has not received any detailed vulnerability reports regarding Douyin Assistant, nor any notifications from cybersecurity regulators. The product operates in full compliance with the Regulations on the Management of Security Vulnerabilities in Network Products, and unauthorized public disclosure of vulnerabilities may constitute a violation of the law.
Addressing the viral video demonstration, the Douyin team stressed that the depicted operations only occur when users explicitly instruct the AI to read malicious emails or messages before sending. Without user commands, the AI does not perform any risky actions automatically. The team has since upgraded its protective measures to counter the specific attack methods shown in the video.
The statement strongly condemned the practice of fabricating vulnerabilities, failing to report them to the manufacturer as required, and disseminating organized safety panic on online platforms before the vulnerabilities are fully patched, describing it as a typical black PR campaign. The company has collected evidence of the content in question and reserves the right to pursue legal action against those responsible.
The Douyin team also noted that screen visual understanding and automated operation features are cutting-edge AI technologies used worldwide. New smartphones from both Chinese and international brands come with similar automated functions. The preview version of Douyin Assistant remains in testing and will continue to be refined based on user feedback, with ongoing upgrades to its security capabilities.
