Apple's more personalized Siri features require a bit more development time before they're ready. This was confirmed by company spokesperson Jacqueline Roy in a statement provided to Daring Fireball today:
Siri helps our users find information and complete tasks efficiently. Over the last six months, we've enhanced Siri's conversational abilities, launched new capabilities like type-to-Siri and improved product knowledge, and integrated ChatGPT. We are also developing a more personalized Siri experience, one with greater awareness of your personal context and the ability to perform actions within and across your apps. Delivering these features at our high standards is taking longer than initially projected, and we now plan to release them in the coming year.
We have reached out to Apple for clarification on the specific timeline for the "coming year."
During last year's WWDC, Apple's unveiling of Apple Intelligence highlighted sophisticated Siri capabilities, such as understanding personal context and taking action based on on-screen content. Apple originally stated these features would be released "over the course of the next year," leading many to expect a launch this spring.
According to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple executives, including software chief Craig Federighi, expressed significant internal concerns after personal testing, finding the features did not function properly or as promised. Gurman's sources also indicate that Apple's AI team fears the project might be canceled entirely, potentially requiring a complete rebuild from the ground up.
In a recent update, Gurman suggested that a truly modern, conversational Siri may not be available until iOS 20 at the earliest.
