XAI’s Luxudong Lin Joins Tencent to Lead Huan Yuan’s Multimodal Algorithm Team
Luxudong Lin, formerly heading multimodal efforts at Musk’s xAI, has joined Tencent to lead multimodal content generation algorithms for Huan Yuan.

Lin, a 2018 Tsinghua University graduate, earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University, specializing in embedding learning, video analysis, and generative models. He interned at Tencent, Facebook AI, and Google, and co-developed the Vx2Text framework, improving subtitle generation via multimodal fusion.
Following his 2024 Ph.D., Lin worked at Google DeepMind on Gemini’s multimodal pre- and post-training. In November 2025, he joined xAI as head of multimodal understanding, overseeing content generation and model training.
Tencent Huan Yuan has been reshaping its team recently. On July 7, OpenAI researcher Tian Yonglong joined as head of multimodal understanding. By July 24, Huan Yuan merged its large language model and multimodal model departments under Yao Shunyu. With key hires like Tian Yonglong, Pang Tianyu, and Luxudong Lin, Huan Yuan’s core team is now solidified, positioning multimodal capabilities as a primary future focus.
