Propelled by the surging momentum of the artificial intelligence sector, SoftBank Group founder and CEO Masayoshi Son has once again claimed the top spot among Asia's wealthiest individuals, with a net worth of approximately $100 billion. SoftBank Group has also overtaken Toyota Motor to become Japan's most valuable publicly traded company .
Forbes' real-time billionaire rankings as of June 2 reflected this shift in wealth. The sharp rise in SoftBank's market value is largely driven by its aggressive investments in AI. Over the past year, SoftBank's cumulative investments in OpenAI are expected to exceed $60 billion. As OpenAI's valuation continues to climb, and with SoftBank recently announcing plans to build a large-scale data center in France, the strategic impact of its heavy investment in AI infrastructure is accelerating.
