Spotify Unveils AI-Driven Q&A and Briefing Tools for Podcasts

Spotify has long served as a platform for listeners to enjoy podcasts created by others. Now, the company aims to transform this dynamic by launching a personal podcast feature that leverages AI to generate customized audio content based on user-defined topics or prompts.
Earlier this month, Spotify unveiled a GitHub-hosted command-line tool for Claude Code and Codex, enabling users to generate podcasts and save them directly to their Spotify libraries. The company announced that this functionality will soon be integrated directly into the Spotify app, allowing users to create podcasts on demand. Users can also schedule the generation of daily or weekly briefings on subjects of recurring interest, as well as create one-off episodes to explore specific topics in depth.
Users can input requests such as “Share my daily city updates and highlight local concerts by my favorite artists” or “Explain economics in five minutes” to generate a podcast, which is then saved to their library for personal listening.
Additionally, users can incorporate links, PDFs, and text documents, and select a custom voice for their generated podcasts. Drawing inspiration from NotebookLM, ElevenLabs Reader, and Huxe (an app developed by former NotebookLM engineers), Spotify is enabling users to create personalized podcasts on virtually any subject.
Spotify has also introduced Studio by Spotify Labs, a dedicated desktop application that connects with users’ email and calendar to create personalized briefings.
Furthermore, the company is launching an AI-powered Q&A feature for Premium mobile users in the U.S., Sweden, and Ireland. This feature allows users to ask questions about the episode they are currently listening to or concepts mentioned within it, providing instant answers. Users can also request podcast recommendations on specific topics. This update follows the April release of a prompt-based feature for creating podcast playlists.
Previously, Spotify focused on promoting video podcasts, reporting a 50% year-over-year increase in video podcast streams. With this new release, Spotify encourages deeper engagement by enabling users to ask questions about podcasts—a move similar to Google’s recently launched Ask YouTube—and to create their own interest-based podcasts.
For podcast creators, Spotify is making its creator sponsorship tool available to help manage brand partnerships. The platform is also introducing a subscription model that allows creators to charge users for access to exclusive content and experiences. Social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Snap already offer similar monetization features to content creators.
