SpaceX Unveils AI Phone Prototype Amidst Musk's Denial
The Wall Street Journal claimed that SpaceX presented an AI-enabled mobile device prototype to investors ahead of its initial public offering, prompting Elon Musk to swiftly dismiss the report on X as entirely inaccurate.
According to sources cited in the report, the prototype operates on a proprietary SpaceX operating system and incorporates xAI’s artificial intelligence capabilities, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The article noted that the project remains in its nascent stages, with the final design undecided and mass production far from guaranteed.

Musk is aggressively steering SpaceX into the artificial intelligence sector. The company has committed billions to constructing AI infrastructure, refining the Grok large language model, and advancing space-based computing services. Earlier this year, Reuters reported that SpaceX intends to release a mobile device capable of connecting to the Starlink satellite network, signaling its ambition to compete in the smartphone market.
Back in January, Musk publicly confirmed that a Starlink-connected phone was feasible, promising a user experience and form factor distinct from today’s mainstream smartphones. The report also highlighted comparable industry initiatives, such as Microsoft’s AI badge prototype for staff, which utilizes a Qualcomm wearable chip to deliver round-the-clock smart office assistance.
