Siri AI Settlement Lets US iPhone Users Install Third-Party Apps, Receive $25 Per Device

Following a class-action lawsuit in the U.S. over delayed Siri AI integration, Apple has launched an official settlement portal for eligible iPhone owners to file compensation claims.
In May, Apple agreed to a $250 million (approx. RMB 1.6 billion) settlement to resolve the case, while maintaining that it did not admit to any wrongdoing and settled primarily to avoid prolonged legal costs.
Compensation ranges from $25 to $95 per device across seven models
Eligible users will receive $25 per qualifying iPhone, with the total potentially increasing to $95 depending on the volume of valid claims submitted.
Eligibility is restricted to U.S. residents who purchased specific iPhone models between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025, for personal use rather than resale.
Qualifying devices include the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Claim submissions are open from September 21, 2026, to December 21, 2026.
Lawsuit stems from discrepancy between WWDC announcements and product release
The legal action originated from Apple’s 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference, where the company showcased advanced Siri AI features, including personal context awareness and screen recognition, promising gradual rollout with new hardware. Subsequent marketing for the iPhone 16 series heavily emphasized these AI capabilities.
After the iPhone 16 launch, several core AI features were delayed, leading plaintiffs to accuse Apple of false advertising and unfair competition for promoting unreleased functionalities.
Actual compensation distribution awaits final court approval, with a hearing scheduled for February 24, 2027. Funds are expected to begin disbursing in 2027.
