Privacy search giant launches AI-free search extension amid Google's AI push backlash
While major tech companies aggressively push for an "AI overhaul" of search engines, many users who prefer traditional search methods are pushing back. This shift has driven a notable surge in traffic to DuckDuckGo's privacy-centric search service.
In response, DuckDuckGo has launched a new browser extension. With one click, users can make the "no-AI search page" their default search engine. The company explicitly states that no AI-generated summaries or overviews will appear in daily searches, offering a return to a pure, classic web search experience.

Recent data indicates that the demand for a non-AI experience is quickly driving real user growth. In late May, installations of the browser in the U.S. market rose 21% week-over-week, with iOS mobile platform seeing an even stronger 33% increase.
However, this doesn't mean the organization is entirely against AI. A spokesperson noted that the technology itself isn't the issue, but AI shouldn't be forced into every user's search experience by default. The choice should be given back to users. While DuckDuckGo has also introduced its own AI chatbot service, users can permanently disable it if they prefer.
