OpenAI plans to bring Sora’s video generator to ChatGPT

OpenAI plans to integrate its AI video generation tool, Sora, into its popular consumer chatbot, ChatGPT. This was revealed by company leaders during a recent office hours session on Discord. Currently, Sora is accessible only through a dedicated web app launched by OpenAI in December, allowing users to create cinematic clips up to 20 seconds long. However, Rohan Sahai, OpenAI's product lead for Sora, mentioned that the company aims to make Sora available in more places and enhance its capabilities.
Initially, OpenAI targeted Sora at creatives and video production studios before its December launch. Now, they're working to make the AI video tool more appealing to a wider audience. Sahai confirmed that they're developing a way to integrate Sora into ChatGPT, though he didn't provide a specific timeline. He hinted that the Sora version in ChatGPT might not have the same level of control as the web app, where users can edit and stitch footage.
By adding Sora to ChatGPT, OpenAI might be looking to boost user engagement and encourage more people to subscribe to ChatGPT's premium tiers, which could offer higher video generation limits. Sahai explained that launching Sora as a separate web app helped keep ChatGPT simple.
Since its launch, OpenAI has improved the Sora web experience, adding features for users to browse community-generated videos. Sahai also expressed interest in developing a standalone mobile app for Sora and mentioned that the team is currently seeking mobile engineers.
OpenAI is also expanding Sora's capabilities to include image generation. Sahai confirmed rumors about an AI image generator powered by Sora, which could potentially create more photorealistic images than what's currently possible with ChatGPT's DALL-E 3 model. Additionally, OpenAI is working on a new version of Sora Turbo, the model behind the Sora web app.
