NVIDIA Unveils Space Computing Service to Orbit AI

At the 2026 GTC conference, NVIDIA unveiled its "Space Computing Service," a strategy designed to deliver data center-grade AI inference power to low Earth orbit. This initiative signifies the official extension of NVIDIA's computational reach from terrestrial servers to outer space, creating a foundational layer for next-generation satellite constellations and autonomous space stations.
Core Technology: Customized for Extreme Conditions
To address the severe size, weight, and power (SWaP) limitations in space, NVIDIA developed a specialized hardware suite:
Space-1 Vera Rubin Module: This module serves as the platform's computational heart. Featuring the Rubin architecture, it delivers up to 25 times higher AI processing performance in space than an H100 GPU.
IGX Thor and Jetson Orin: These two platforms are engineered for edge computing, delivering reliable and efficient edge AI inference within the resource-constrained orbital environment.
NVIDIA founder Jensen Huang explained that as satellite numbers grow, intelligence must reside where data originates. By processing AI directly on orbit, satellites evolve from basic relay devices into intelligent "orbital data centers" capable of real-time sensing, decision-making, and autonomous navigation.
This service will significantly enhance geospatial intelligence analysis and complex autonomous space missions by minimizing the latency inherent in ground-space data transmission. NVIDIA is collaborating with global aerospace partners to establish the industry standards for computing in this final frontier.
