Notion Introduces AI Agents for Automated Workflows and Data Insights

At the "Make with Notion" event on Thursday, the company unveiled its inaugural AI agent. This agent leverages a user's entire Notion workspace—including all pages and databases—as context to automatically generate meeting notes and analyses, competitor evaluation reports, and feedback landing pages.

The productivity platform highlighted that the agent can create new pages and databases, or enrich existing ones with updated information, properties, and views. Notion agents can also be activated from connected external platforms. For example, users can instruct the agent to compile a bug-tracking dashboard using data from various sources such as Slack, email, and Google Drive.

The newly introduced Agent expands on Notion AI, an existing feature for searching and summarizing content. However, the new agent handles more complex, multi-step assignments by utilizing agentic AI capabilities. According to the company, the current version can execute tasks that span hundreds of pages and run for up to 20 minutes.

Users can configure a dedicated "profile" page for the agent, specifying how to reference sources, determine output style, and indicate where to post updates and final outcomes. The agent can also be prompted to "remember" essential details during use. These memories are stored on the profile page and can be edited directly by the user.

Demonstration videos showed agents providing feedback on landing pages and updating them, creating a restaurant tracker, analyzing meeting notes, and preparing competitive analysis reports.

Currently, these actions must be triggered manually. Notion plans to soon introduce the ability to build customized agents that operate on a schedule or in response to specific triggers. A template library for agents will also be released, offering ready-made prompts tailored to common tasks.

Over the past two years, Notion has introduced a calendar app, a Gmail client, a meeting note-taker, and an enterprise search tool for gathering cross-platform information. These features provided the foundational building blocks needed to develop automations. Other enterprise knowledge and productivity platforms—such as Salesforce, Fireflies, and Read AI—have also launched their own agents for extracting and refreshing information.
