Netflix Buys Ben Affleck's AI Film Studio InterPositive for $587M
Netflix has confirmed in regulatory filings that it completed the acquisition of InterPositive, an AI film production startup, for $587 million in cash. The deal was first announced in March, though the exact amount wasn't disclosed at the time; Bloomberg earlier estimated it could reach $600 million.
InterPositive, co-founded by actor and director Ben Affleck, specializes in using artificial intelligence to assist film production. Affleck said the company's goal is to "protect the power of human creativity" by leveraging AI tools that help post-production teams work more efficiently, particularly when dealing with missing footage, background replacement, and lighting adjustments.

As previously announced by Netflix, the entire InterPositive team will join the company following the acquisition, with Affleck serving as a senior advisor to help advance related technologies and creative directions.
Netflix also disclosed in its latest earnings report that about 300 films are now using generative AI. This acquisition underscores Netflix's accelerated push toward an AI-driven film production system, using technology to streamline content creation while exploring how AI can integrate with traditional filmmaking.
As generative AI continues to mature in video generation, post-production, and visual effects, the film industry is undergoing a fundamental shift in production models. AI-assisted creativity has become a key competitive battleground for streaming platforms.
