NetEase Youdao Pivots to AI, Online Marketing Becomes Key Revenue Driver, New AI Products Unveiled

NetEase's subsidiary Youdao has announced a major strategic shift, repositioning its brand from a "leading educational technology company" to a "learning and advertising AI application service provider." This change elevates the advertising business to a core strategic priority. According to the latest data, its net revenue from online marketing services in 2025 grew 28.5% year over year, surpassing its traditional business for the first time and becoming the company's largest income source.
On the product front, Youdao has recently launched a series of premium AI-powered offerings. The "AI Q&A Pen," designed to address learning challenges, won the "EdTech Hardware Solution Award" at the 2026 TheEdTechAwards for its technological innovation. Meanwhile, the company introduced a personal assistant called "LobsterAI" and an AI knowledge base named "Youdao Bao Ku" to support intelligent knowledge management. Additionally, its flagship app "Youdao Translate" has been upgraded with a new earpiece simultaneous interpretation feature, further enhancing real-time cross-language communication.
Beyond commercial expansion and technological progress, Youdao is also making strides in social responsibility. In partnership with the National Library Foundation, it has launched the "Promotion Plan for Youth Reading Services" public welfare initiative. As the first implementation step of this plan, Youdao donated 400 AI dictionary pens to grassroots schools, aiming to use artificial intelligence to bridge educational resource gaps and improve reading and learning efficiency for underprivileged teenagers.
This strategic repositioning not only reflects Youdao's transition from an educational tool provider to a comprehensive AI application service, but also demonstrates its new exploration in combining AI commercialization with social public welfare.
