Moon’s Dark Side Submits A1 IPO Form to HKEx, Targets $50B Valuation

Moonshot AI, widely known as Kimi, has confidentially filed an A1 listing application with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, initiating its public offering process while simultaneously finalizing a pre-IPO funding round at a $50 billion pre-money valuation. The company has not yet commented on these reports.
Fueled by rapid model updates and faster commercial adoption, Kimi’s capital operations have intensified. Since January, the company has rolled out K2.5, K2.6, and K3 models, adhering to a quarterly release cycle. Its Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) surged from over $100 million in early March to $300 million by mid-June, driving the company’s valuation from $4.3 billion at the end of 2025 to $35 billion following its July financing—a nearly eightfold increase in just six months.
As improved model capabilities drove a spike in usage, the cost of large-scale computing resources escalated sharply. Consequently, Kimi paused new user subscriptions after the K3 launch to prioritize existing paying customers. This pressure has compelled the company to seek capital market funding to expand its computing infrastructure. The AI landscape has shifted from competing on model parameters to evaluating commercialization metrics, including ARR, API usage, and enterprise client acquisition.
With the imminent release of K3.1, which enhances reasoning speed and Agent functionality, and facing intense competition from rivals like Zhipu, MiniMax, and DeepSeek, Kimi’s move toward the secondary market signals a new phase in the commercialization of domestic AI models. It also suggests that industry leaders will soon undergo rigorous testing of their monetization strategies and technological application value.
