Ministry of State Security Warns: Daily Word Token Usage Exceeds 140 Trillion, Beware Identity Hijacking and Scams

The Ministry of State Security issued a security alert today concerning the AI core term "Token," stressing the need for heightened vigilance against data leaks and financial fraud risks in a market where daily usage exceeds 140 trillion units.
With the National Data Administration officially designating Token as a measurable, quantifiable, and tradable information unit—the smallest in AI—it has become the "settlement unit" of the intelligent era. Data indicates that by March 2026, China's Token usage had surged more than a thousand times compared to early 2024, with applications expanding from AI text generation and audiovisual editing to digital identity credentials and blockchain equity tokens.
However, technological breakthroughs bring security challenges. The Ministry of State Security noted that criminals exploit methods like cross-site scripting attacks and public Wi-Fi sniffing to steal Tokens. Once exposed, attackers can directly assume user identities, leading to privacy theft or unauthorized asset transfers.
Additionally, the lack of encryption protection for Tokens has enabled forgery and tampering, along with illegal financial activities disguised as "getting rich by stockpiling Tokens," posing new threats to national economic and data security. In response, official recommendations advise users to distinguish between identity credentials and AI resources, access services through legitimate encrypted channels, and enable two-factor authentication. This warning signals a regulatory shift from macro-level models to micro-level data units, underscoring its significance for building a compliant and stable AI industry ecosystem.
